PRODUCER'S STRIKE

DOCUMENTARY ONE HOUR

Executive Producer: Richard Nielsen, Roger Racine

On December 29, 1958, the 75 producers on the French TV network of the CBC in Montreal went on strike. Almost all of the other French television employees refused to cross the picket lines bringing live French television to a virtual halt. Among the strikers and their supporters walking the picket lines was a future premier of Quebec, a future Prime Minister of Canada, a Governor-General, a Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, and numerous future cabinet ministers, both federal and provincial. All of them were capitulated into prominence because of the strike, making it, from a purely political point of view, the most important strike in Canadian history. Never-before-seen archival footage combined with photographs and present day interviews (including Knowlton Nash who wrote a book about the strike and its impact) enable this French/Canadian collaboration to effectively bring to life this very important piece of Canadian history.
